Edit Slide
Saved slides can be opened directly from the library in PowerPoint, edited, and saved with an updated preview image — without opening the original presentation.
Prerequisites
- You are working with a private slide in your own library — or you are in Admin View and editing a public slide
Opening and Editing a Slide
Option 1 — Double-click on the preview image
- Select the desired slide in the Slides → Manage tab
- Double-click on the preview image at the top of the detail area
- The saved
slide.pptxopens in PowerPoint - Make changes and save in PowerPoint (
Ctrl+S)
Option 2 — Button "✏ Open in PPT"
- Select the desired slide in the Slides → Manage tab
- Click the ✏ Open in PPT button directly below the preview image
- The saved
slide.pptxopens in PowerPoint - Make changes and save in PowerPoint (
Ctrl+S)
Note
This opens the library copy of the slide — not the original presentation from which the slide was originally saved.
Updating the Preview
After editing and saving in PowerPoint:
- Switch back to PPPTools
- Click the ↺ Refresh Preview button (directly next to "✏ Open in PPT")
- PPPTools reads the modified
slide.pptx, creates a new preview image, and saves the updated version in the library
The new preview image appears immediately in the detail area and is shown the next time the gallery view is opened.

are applied locally
→ Gallery and Manage show the updated state
What Happens in Detail
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| ↺ Refresh Preview | Exports new preview image (PNG), auto-increments version number, updates manifest |
| Save (metadata) | Saves all metadata fields, auto-increments version number, updates manifest |
| Sync (user side) | Detects new version number in manifest → transfers slide.xml + preview.png → Gallery and Manage show updated state |
Automatic Versioning
Every admin action (Refresh Preview or Save) automatically generates a new patch version number (e.g. 1.0 → 1.1). The sync engine detects changes based on this version number — reliably, independent of timestamps.
Order Matters
The presentation must be saved in PowerPoint before clicking ↺ Refresh Preview — otherwise the old version will be exported.
Result for Users
At the next taskpane launch (or manually via Settings → Sync → Sync Now), all users receive:
- The updated preview image in Gallery and Manage
- The new version number in the metadata
- All changed metadata fields (category, description, etc.)
- The updated PPTX file when inserting the slide
