Add-in Language

PPPTools speaks German and English. You decide which language the add-in uses — regardless of the language PowerPoint itself runs in.

Changing the language

Settings → ≡ (burger menu) → PPPTools Settings → Language

The “Add-in language" setting offers three choices:

Choice Effect
Automatic (Windows) PPPTools follows the Windows display language. If that is neither German nor English, English is used.
Deutsch The add-in is always German, even on an English Windows.
English The add-in is always English, even on a German Windows.

The setting applies to your user account and survives restarts.

What changes immediately — and what needs a restart

The ribbon is relabelled immediately. Drop-down lists in the ribbon (for example the numbering formats) and the task panes follow once PowerPoint has been restarted. So close PowerPoint once if you want to see the new language everywhere.

What else the language setting affects

  • Help pages: Clicking a “?" opens this help in the language you selected — no longer in the Windows language.
  • Your content is untouched: snippets, slides, storylines, presets, agenda items and colour palettes are your data and are never translated. Text that a tool writes onto a slide (a watermark, for instance) does not change either.

A gradual rollout

In this version the ribbon and the settings themselves are bilingual. The remaining task panes will follow in upcoming versions — until then they may still show German text even if you selected English.
